What is the Virtual Epilepsy Clinic?

This is a specially designed online, walk-in clinic consisting of a team of individuals with expertise in epilepsy. The clinic’s primary goal is to provide expert epilepsy care to patients in a timely and effective manner. The development of the Virtual Epilepsy Clinic aligns with NCT’s value of constantly striving to transform the lives of our patients.

Why has the Virtual Epilepsy Clinic been created?

The COVID19 pandemic has placed significant stresses on the healthcare system, including access to expert care. It is our hope that NCT’s Virtual Epilepsy Clinic provides an option for epilepsy patients affected by the limitations COVID19 has placed on healthcare resources.

Given the success of this model, this clinic will exist beyond COVID19 to help patients receive fast and effective care by reducing the wait times to see neurologists and concussion experts.

I am a Healthcare Provider and would like to know how to access this clinic for my patients.

  • The clinic is open to all patients (children and adults) who would like to meet with an epilepsy specialist
  • The clinic is fully covered by OHIP; no extra charges.
  • The epilepsy team consists of neurology nurses and NPs, physician assistants and pediatirc & adult neurologists with specialized training or focus in epilepsy
  • Visits will be very focused assessments.
    • This is not intended to replace the patient’s current epilepsy care; however, follow-up care will be arranged as indicated.
  • Examples of patients and issues that can be assessed in the clinic:
    • Active epilepsy requiring management, assessment of diagnosis and medication questions/renewals/changes
    • First-time seizure or new-onset epilepsy
    • Paroxysmal event diagnosis: epileptiform vs. non-epileptiform event (ex: seizure vs. syncope)
    • Assessment for driving fitness
  • Visits are by virtual, walk-in only
  • Patients are seen on a first-come, first-serve basis exactly like a standard walk-in clinic; however, the registration process and visit are conducted online from the comfort of the patient’s own home
